Here are my thoughts on books, music, movies or other forms of media that I have engaged in.

The Message Behind the Movie

About a month or so ago, I got a copy of The Message Behind the Movie: How To Engage With A Film Without Disengaging Your Faith.† The book is written by Douglas M. Beaumont.† At first sight I knew it was for me – given that I’m a person who loves Storytelling and who is serious about my faith.

The book sat on my shelf for a few weeks, because of my busy work schedule, but I finally got a chance to start reading it.† I’m on page 68 and so far Beaumont does a good job at delving into the world and mechanics of Storytelling.† He also provides the tools to understand how to build a framework for Christians to practically evaluate the depth of a movie through the lens of Biblical Christianity.† And don’t think that you already know what he’s going to say.† You may be surprised.† I’ll talk more about the book as I continue reading.† If you’re serious about your faith and about motion pictures, this is a must read.

Iron Man DVD is Here!

FINALLY!† The Iron Man DVD is here!† Just released today!† I’ve been waiting for the DVD since Opening Day back in May.† I’ve been saving†my change†for months and†picked it up on my lunch break.† It helps when there’s a Bestbuy right across the street. ūüôā (Although it takes a lot of discipline to stay away from those un-necessary purchases.† But I”m making it, thanks for asking.)

If you haven’t already sensed my excitement – I’m excited.† (Trying to look serious in the photo, instead of grinning from ear to ear!)† This has become my favorite Superhero movie to date.† Excitement aside, there’s a lot of good scenes in the movie and you gotta love the Iron Man armor!† At first, when I found out that Robert Downey Jr. was going to play Tony Stark, I was extremely upset.† I couldn’t see him as the character.† But once I saw the movie – he pulled it off very nicely.

Power of a Saiyan: Part Two

It Is The Question That Drives Us

What is the power of the Saiyan? Why does it draw men? I donít know about you, but I get a thrill when Goku or Vegeta or Gohan power up to Supersaiyan Ė especially when Goku powers up to Super Saiyan 3! The raw power is tremendous! And letís not talk about the fight scenes against Majin Buu or Brolly!

But I just had a realization about a major draw Ė if not THE major draw of the series. Itís a deep-seated urge that most of us men may not even realize unless we take the time to think about it: it is an epic saga about Fathers and Sons . Itís a story about Mentorship .

Antwone Fisher

My wife and I just finished watching the movie Antwone Fisher (starring Denzel Washington and Derek Luke). It was on television. It’s a powerful movie that is an excellent reminder that we can overcome the fears and obstacles. It’s a great movie about mentoring and speaking the truth about our lives in order to press toward internal and external freedom.

I remember when it came out, (Denzel Washington’s directorial debut) I took a young man, Michael Spencer (who’s now in the Marines) to see it. This is a great movie for African American men and women to see. What’s even more amazing is that the movie is based on the actual life of Antwone Fisher . When you get a chance – Watch it.

I’M KEEPING THIS POST UPDATED TO KEEP DISCUSSION AT THE FOREFRONT.
