MY PASSION

I LOVE TO COMMUNICATE THROUGH WRITING!!!  I really do!  The longer I live… the more I enjoy it.  Writing is one of the things God used to save me because when I was a teenager, writing my overwhelming feelings down helped to keep me from self-destructing.  Little did I know that God would use this desire to craft a book that has impacted lives across the country!

My FIRST BOOK

Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers is a collection of poetry, short story and short essay.  It chronicles ten years of my experiences and observations.  You can check out People Talk Transition , to hear what others are saying about my work.  And you can check out Transition Book Excerpts to read some for yourself.

MY SECOND BOOK

I’m also finishing up my SECOND BOOK - a novel geared towards urban teens.  It’s called SpeedSuit Powers , and will be released during the holiday season 2009.

I’m very concerned about our youth (especially urban teens) as they seek to find their way and discover their purpose in life.  I know what it’s like to not know my purpose and to go through hard times of insecurity because of this lack of knowledge.  I know what it’s like to think I had no future.  I know what it’s like to try and press through life with some kind of dream - while battling all the fears that I would never amount to anything worth while.  I know what it’s like to try to hold onto God’s hand - trying to believe that perhaps I had a reason for being alive - even though I couldn’t see it.  I know what it’s like to want to live a fantastic life, but being terribly afraid to do so.  AND I now know what it’s like to accomplish worthwhile things and see dreams - that I hardly thought would happen - come true!

And so SpeedSuit Powers is about not running from our fears!  It’s about reaching for the fantastic that life has to offer.  It’s about choices.  It’s about identity and purpose.  I’ve been told by teens and adults who’ve read the manuscript that it’s a great story!  And I wanted to write a story that has it all - adventure, drama, comedy, heroics, faith and romance.  This is the story that I would have loved to read when I was a teen.  Hopefully, today’s teens will love to read it and talk about it as well!

FINALLY…

As I said, I love to write!!!  I’m working on several other books as well.  As those draw closer to completion, I’ll let you know about them.

Finally, as a writer, I’m always excited about encouraging others to write!  I believe everyone has at least one book in them.  What are you doing about yours?
