AUTHOR:

“Speedsuit Powers: Book 2 not only works for schools, I’ve read it and passed it onto my daughter (I know, it should’ve been the other way around but…) It is an amazing read! I can’t put it into one word so I’ll say it’s Intriguing! …Suspenseful! …Thought Provoking!
If book one was GOOD and book two is GREAT, I am VERY EAGER to read book 3!” - Takeisha Benjamin, NY

“Allen has fused his personal life experiences with biblical references, very sound critical thinking exercises and inspiring words that stick.  I immediately shared my copy of Move with my son and plan to purchase additional copies for my son-in-law and 2 nephews.   I would highly recommend this book, especially to young men of color, navigating through life and into their God-given purposes.” - Patricia Walker, VA

Speedsuit Powers is an epic urban adventure story. I highly recommend it!” - Dorette Saunders, NY

“Allen Paul Weaver III speaks in clear and raw terms in his book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers. He boldly shares, with the reader, his quest to unearth the significance God has placed within his own soul; with the hope that we will be motivated to search out the destiny that is laid up for each of us. Any collection of writings which span a decade is an impressive feat. Transition is a quality work and recommended reading for any man who is serious about pressing through their internal and external opposition that stands between them and their God-given dreams.” -Hajj Fleming, Author of The Brand Yu Life, Canton, Michigan

Speedsuit Powers is therapeutic and a breath of fresh air. I didn’t want to put it down! The story ties together different issues that youth and adults face in a way that is believable, moving and motivating. I know students will read this book and be transformed! I give it two thumbs up!” -Dr. Sharnnia Artis, Author of Moving from Ordinary to Extraordinary, Ohio

“I am grateful for the life that is Allen Paul Weaver, III. I am grateful to God for the word within him that was breathed to life in the pages of Transition. I am grateful for the encouragement and inspiration I receive each time I read a piece in Transition, each one speaking to a different life situation I have or will encounter. I am grateful that I own a literary work that speaks to the struggles, heartaches, joys and triumphs of young people to share with my children and my children’s children.

What a tragedy it would have been if Allen Paul Weaver, III had remained captive to rage, self-hatred, low self-esteem, and pain. Glory to God, we have been blessed by his transition from old to new, and his willingness to be transparent with readers for the sake of our growth and development in Christ. His life, as shared through the amazingly authentic poetry and prose in Transition, is a testimony of the redemption, deliverance, and victory made possible only through relationship with Jesus Christ. In this timeless anthology, Allen not only shares the struggles and triumphs of his own personal journey to maturity in Christ and adulthood, but also weighs in on major societal ills including racism, sexism, and economic disparity. Though written from the vantage point of a young man, as a woman, I never felt like an outsider reading. In fact, there are pieces in Transition, including “Truth Be Told: and “Unknown Fear” that resonate so deeply in my spirit; It is as if Allen took the feelings etched in my heart and gave them voice.

Transition is a valuable resource for parents, teachers, mentors, and youth group leaders interested in developing whole and healthy young people who are ready to walk in their individual and collective purpose in Christ. Transition speaks to the struggles of identity common to young men and women alongside the revelation of the “high calling of God” that we each have access to through Jesus Christ. The reflection questions in the Appendix are extremely useful and make it possible to use Allen’s poetry as a vehicle for engaging young people in discussions that will open their eyes to the promising possibilities that lie ahead.” -Donna Olivia Powell – Artist and Educator, Madison, New Jersey

“Allen created a fun character for young people to read and enjoy. The novel gives young people that spark to have a dream. The character goes through his trials and tribulations, but it shows the heart of a winner. I will be waiting for Book 2.” -Eric Cooper, Knight Seeker novel series, NJ

“A must read for all ages. We need something positive to promote our children and this book can get you started. Once you start to read it you can’t put it down, you won’t be disappointed.” - Lucille Rivers

“Breaking through barriers in our lives means recognizing that change is needed and possible; without it, we lend ourselves to remain in bondage. In Allen Paul Weaver III’s book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers, he writes about those hidden struggles, thoughts and uncertainties that tend to throw us off kilter when searching for our true purpose. In the book, Allen exposes himself in a ten-year journey to self-discovery. This self-discovery came with a price: a suicide attempt, unrealistic images of self and other life struggles that are candidly composed in an anthology of short stories, poems and essays.

Weaver captivates his audience with the thought-provoking poem entitled, “Slavery” that speaks about the self-inflected “psychological chains” that weigh us down in life, but his passionate poem, “When You Can Fly,” mesmerizes the heart to encourage the weary, lonely and rejected. It is here that Weaver writes about topical subjects with every individual in mind.

Weaver’s prolific writing is displayed as soft whispers of prayers shining down to encourage all readers and he does this by challenging and holding the reader accountable for the decisions we make and the ones we are pondering. Weaver’s book clearly sets the reader on track to make a choice to transition, one step at a time, to see ourselves as God sees us and to Weaver, this is where true freedom begins.” – Dr. Tisha Y. Lewis, Assistant Professor, Georgia State University, GA

“Speedsuit Powers is a “must read” book for all persons on all levels especially our youth who experience being bullied daily. This book does not contain any profanity and will keep you wide awake at night wondering what’s next! I have truly never read such an inspirational, motivating novel before such as this. The humor contained within also had my children looking at me suspiciously wondering what was so interesting and emotional. My daughter who prefers movies over reading books has decided to read this novel which was filled with so many emotions and well!! Needless to say, we are eagerly looking for a Part 2 to Speedsuit Powers or at least a movie! Thank you Allen! – Zelda Revell, NY

“What a delightfully charming story. I initially read the book just  because I knew the author but was so captivated by Curtis Powers and his story that I purchased a copy for my 9 year old nephew.” -Shirley Delph, NY

“I am praying my way through your book again. It certainly speaks to every aspect of life. I usually don’t read the dedications, introductions and author’s notes in books, but in yours I have. I will continue to send updates and thoughts as I further my reading with an intention to applying it to my own life. Thanks for writing this book. When it comes time to write my story, I’ll ask the penetrating questions that inspired you to write yours.” -Stevey Williams, VA

“Allen Paul Weaver III has so cleverly addressed the issue of bullying in his novel, Speedsuit Powers. He’s done this by allowing his main character, Curtis, to use his intelligence to outwit and befriend his nemesis, Treyshawn, with the support of his school, friends and family.” -J. Helen Perkins, ED.D., Associate Professor of Reading & Urban Literacy, TN

“Allen’s writing paints such a vivid picture and draws you right into the story. The Grand Experiment, a short story from his book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers is such an intriguing tale; it leaves you wanting more.” – Allison Younger, New York

“What a great story! Curtis, Kelly and the other characters will inspire kids to dream big and stand firm during tough times. Speedsuit Powers will make a great gift for any kid who is about to start high school. It’s not too late to put it on their summer reading list! It makes me wish that I had paid more attention in my physics class. I hope to see Speedsuit Powers on the big screen!” -Frank Gomez, NY

“I personally loved Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers. It was interesting how some of the passages reminded me of myself and even my husband Richard. The book, to me was pure and honest thoughts of issues and situations that occurred in the writer’s life. Though some of the passages may have been uncomfortable to him he still expressed them, I feel, because someone reading the book could possibly relate to the situation. It gave me insight not only for myself but of the writer too. I just totally embraced what the writer had to say and I am very pleased with what the book allowed my mind and my emotions to experience. This book is well worth reading.” -Tamia O’Neal, CA

“This is a great read for teens. It has many different lessons that could apply to all of our lives in some way. Once you start and get into the rhythm of the book, you’ll have to keep reading to find out how the story ends!” -Tseohnni M., High School Student, NY

“I’m enjoying your anthology, Transtion: Breaking Through the Barriers. I take it a dose at a time. It’s not one of those books that you can just rush through; there is so much information and insight in many of the pieces. Also, a few of us were just viewing your website and your Youtube entries. Is there any thing else you’re not telling us? It’s all amazing!” – Sheree Williams, New York

“It took me a few days to read Speedsuit Powers and cheer Curtis on, dance next to Kelly, cry along with Treyshawn, and work with Mr. Grabowski. I was impressed with the authors gradual revelation of key facts about the “minor characters” lives. I was also riveted by the realism of each character’s journey and I now eagerly anticipate Curtis’ next move. This piece of literature is replete with messages for young people, parents, educators, and others who regularly interact with adolescents.” – Helena Osinloye, Educator & Youth Group Leader, NY

“Transitions is on the literary and prophetic cutting edge, “for such a time as this.” I commend Allen P. Weaver, III for articulating the human predicament with such precision, hope and therapeudic. I esteem and recommend this book to the highest degree. To God be all the glory! -J. G. McCann, Sr. – Pastor, St. Luke Baptist Church, Harlem NY

“It’s not very often that a book grabs you, takes you for a really intense ride, and leaves you breathless and waiting for the movie and sequel book. But that is the strength of Speedsuit Powers! I read it in a short timeframe (less than 5 hours) because I could not put the book down. I had to see how the characters ultimately developed. I was not disappointed.

Author Allen P. Weaver is to be commended for creating a realistic fiction work that tackles serious issues with integrity: Bullying, the education system, family dynamics, violence, mentoring, nurturing and ultimately, supporting the creativity that lives in each child. That’s a lot to squeeze into a few hundred pages!

Speedsuit Powers made me reflect fondly on the people who influenced me during my formative years and in present day. Mr. Weaver respectfully presents counselors who truly counsel, teachers who challenge their students, students who bring out the best and worst in us and mothers/fathers who struggle, hope and work towards something better for themselves.

The protagonist is real and believable. His situations and responses are not presented in a weak way. You find yourself worrying for and about him, and cheering for…well, I won’t give that away (smile). Supporting characters are well developed and will remind you of uncles, family members, that girl in your class you always admired for being so focused, a “Quesha from the Block” type who you always hope will ultimately get herself together…and even the antagonist is a fully developed and recognizable character, who draws you into his dark reality.

I’ve said enough…Go buy two books – one for yourself, and one to influence a youth within your reach.” -Donna Jackson, Parent & Community Organizer, NY

Allen Weaver’s autobiographical anthology, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers, is a challenging read. It is not a piece of literature you read from cover-to-cover and just call it a day. Allen caused me to ponder his revelations and the depths from which they were freed. He gave me permission to peer into those components hidden beneath protective layers that encapsulated him until now. He dares to take a leap of faith and bare his soul to us, his readers, in spite of his former low self-worth opinion. Allen’s lyrical style is quite different from most biographical writings, incorporating a variety of styles to each piece.” -Carol Washington, New York

Speedsuit Powers is an incredible story! Not only of invention, excitement and drama, but one that gets at some of the real issues that affect teenagers now like bullying, loss and a sense of their place in this world. Our hero Curtis is a fine example of being the best of what we can be and striving for what is important. You can become great by keeping people down (e.g. Bullying, criticism) or by raising up people around you (e.g. Encouragement, understanding and concern). Our hero Curtis opts for the latter, sharing many of the traits of the author.” – Paul Hartley, NY

“No matter who you are or how old you are, you need to read Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers!” -Barbara Scott, NY

Speedsuit Powers is an amazing story that is sure to capture your attention! Filled with relevant issues such as bullying, coping with the loss of a loved one, self esteem, and forgiveness. “Transition gives great insight. My favorite parts were the chapters on “Steven” and “Don’t Judge Me Until.” Allen has an easy writing style that allows the reader to instantly connect with the subject matter. Many parts are very personal and raw at times, taking us out of our comfort zone with the realization that even those who are abundantly blessed are still challenged with emotional and painful trials and tribulations. Allen transitions beautifully through them, the poetry and the short stories, leaving us empowered if not a little more spiritually grounded!” - Donna Jackson – Creative Director, Triple Hill Arts Initiative, NY

“I finished Speedsuit Powers on my kindle app for the Evo! Two words…LOVED IT! Once I got going….I could not put it down. I felt like I knew the characters. I can’t wait for the next one! The Power Series is it? This is only Book 1 and I can’t wait for the next!” – Jamel Sweeney, New York

“I am impressed with Weaver as a young author and really enjoyed the storyline of his novel, Speedsuit Powers!! I know it’s a book young people will get a lot from! The message is so positive, but told in an urban – non preachy manner. I plan on calling a few friends to see if I can get a book club started with YOUR book.” - Ms. Harris, Books in tha Hood, Bronx, NY

“I love the characters they are strong and realistic. The story line deals with issues that young adults face everyday. The storyline not only address the external conflicts, but it gives insight into the internal. Bully issues are a serious concern in our schools and our community. I hope by reading Speedsuit Powers many will learn to deal with bully issues in a non-violent manner, heal from the effects of being bullied and perhaps not become bullies themselves.”
- Phyllis M.Shelton, CEO iPower Global Solutions, NY

“I finished Speedsuit Powers and I must say it was amazing!! After 5 hours, I have been inspired beyond reason. Even though Curtis is 15 it is really easy for me, a college student, to relate to his story. Not in the sense of having to… deal with a bully, but not understanding who I am and what I want to do. I have always known that I wanted to be great, but Curtis inspires me to become even better at school and work even harder to become a Veterinarian or Doctor.” - Lexi Sampson, College Student, Kansas

“I never really make time to read unless I find a book I’m interested in. I think Speedsuit Powers is great! The dialog, the story line, the characters are awesome! Speedsuit Powers was a great book that I could not put down! I found a lot of myself in Curtis and have a feeling that there was a lot about this story that has a lot to do with your life as well. I definitely feel this book is something that both adults and teenagers can relate to. I am definitely looking forward to the next books and would love to see Miranda and Mr. G get together :)” - Jen K., NY

Speedsuit Powers identifies real issues facing our youth today, as well as many situations and tough decisions that we all face in life. The author was able to capture and voice a young person’s feelings as they struggle to cope with new surroundings, troubled classmates, and not being one of the “in” crown. This book should be an encouragement to parents because the main character shows real character – he is respectful to his mother, teachers and friends. I was thrilled after reading this book when I was able to give it to an 11-year boy who is being raised by a single mom. It seemed like God had this young man in His plan as he is now reading Speedsuit Powers! Thank you for writing such a wonderful story. Not that I’ve looked too far and wide but I don’t think there are many books written specifically for this age group and gender that touch on these topics so well. This book is definitely a must-read!”
- Anne LoCastro, New York

Speedsuit Powers was a work in progress for many years; stemming from an illustration that I still have to this day of a super hero flying to save the world. It has developed into the book Speedsuit Powers that shows that anyone, including those that have physical difficulties, can overcome the obstacles they face and create a better future for themselves and for everyone around them. It’s an incredible story of triumph, family and courage. People need to read it!”
