I USED TO SAY ‘NO’ TO TYLER PERRY for a number of reasons. I remember going to see one of his early plays a number of years back and when Madea came out on stage and started talking, I thought, ‘isn’t this supposed to be a Christian play?’ You see, Madea is a no-nonse woman who likes to say what’s on her mind, even if it’s an occasional cuss word. She never crossed the line with the ‘heavy curse words,’ but the light ones seemed to be fair game. Oh, by the way, Madea isn’t a ‘real’ woman, she’s a character that Tyler Perry plays. And this character has become a runaway hit for many audiences.

Are you a caged soul? In what ways do you feel trapped in life? What are you doing to work towards freedom? Here’s a video of a poem from my book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers, that deals with this very topic. Be encouraged. Freedom is available for you.

I just learned a big lesson when it comes to the power of "asking". Here’s the story:
WRITING RESEARCH
I’m working on a writing project for an upcoming book about a teenager who loves Track and Field. I’ve begun doing some research and took a trip (on Friday) to the NikeTown store on 57th street in Manhattan to help me visualize certain aspects of the story. I went to the store looking specifically for a adjustable Running Vest, which I saw online at Nike.com. The store itself is pretty amazing and the atmosphere is rather addictive.

I love my mother and don’t mind letting the entire world know about it. Share this with all of the "moms" in your life.

The Last Son of Krypton

The following is from the book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers.
Having grown up with a poor self-view and low self-worth, I found myself looking for something to fill the void within me. I found Clark Kent. He was always described as mild-mannered, a pushover who didn’t walk with confidence, a timid soul who looked on the skinny side by the way that he dressed. His greatest distinguishing feature was his glasses – thick framed and giving the perception of poor vision.

Do something with me LORD…
Make me who You want me to be.
Transform my life…
So I will count for something.
Something bigger than me…
Something I’d be willing to die for.
More than just an ideal or a passionate plea…
Something more real than me.
Because if the truth be told…
I’d reather just stay bundled up in this blanket I’ve made
Filled with comfortable things and even my fears…
Selfish things to keep me from living.

What About Your Dreams?
Don’t you ever think about the future that’s filled with possibilities?
Have you ever pictured in your mind, the coming day’s light?
The day’s light shines on your dreams:
The light of recognition - the light of realization
What about your dreams?
Do you choose not to dream to avoid the off chance
That it might not come true?
Are you afraid of broken promises? Is this what you do?
