Speedsuit Powers First Copy

I am holding in my hands for the first time, the very first copy of my new book, Speedsuit Powers . It’s a teen fiction novel where the main character, Curtis, is the new kid at a new school dealing with bully issues. It releases this December. My prayer, hope and desire is that this book will help to positively impact urban youth culture. That it will inspire, motivate and educate youth to see their lives differently and make new choices (or stand by decisions they’ve already made) which lead to true and lasting success.
It’s been a long road to get to this point. But the adventure has been great! This story has lived within me for 10 years and - at the challenge of my friend Demetrius T. Veasy II and his manager - I began to write it down in April 2008. A year and a half later… and it’s finally done. Now everything REALLY begins.

What dreams have lived within you for years, that have not yet been fulfilled? What are you doing about them? Have you given up; stuffed them down; or are you pressing forward towards them?
I sat in fear , holding this story close to my chest for a decade… but it’s finally here. How did things go from a dream - to a story - to a manuscript - to a finished book? One… step… at… a… time. We have to be willing to take the steps… and press through our fears. There are still fears to battle because now comes the ‘hard part’ - promotion and getting this story out to the masses . But I can’t let the fear of going where I’ve never been, or the fear of rejection stop me from pressing forward. Don’t let these fears stop you either.
Pray your way through… as you believe and take each step. God is there waiting to provide everything you need to accomplish the dreams that He has placed in your heart. Obstacles, struggles, naysayers… it’s all a part of the process. As the late Dr. Randy Pausch said in his book and video, The Last Lecture , "Brick walls are there to separate us from those who really didn’t want to achieve their childhood dreams."
I can’t say that my childhood dream was to become a writer/author. However, I can say that I always enjoyed a good story and fell in love with writing stories in my 12th grade creative writing class. That’s still near ‘childhood’.
Get ready for Speedsuit Powers in December! And join me in helping to make a difference in the lives of youth all around us. The phenomenon is just beginning!
