What Major Desires Move You?
What major desires live within you?

I’ll be 35 years old next month - if I live to see July 27th. I’m amazed at the fact that I’ve been around on this planet for over three decades. What amazes me most is that over 15 years ago - fresh out of high school - I attempted suicide - feeling that there was no future worth me waiting for. But God is merciful, because I’m still be here when so many others have succeeded in taking their own lives. So I can’t take any credit for that. I’m so grateful for the life I’m living. It’s not free from problems, but it is fulfilling and beyond my limited dreams.
So, I was thinking about my life today, and the realization hit me: there are four desires that have never changed.
1. I’ve always wanted to know God and what He requires of me (PURPOSE).
2. I’ve always dreamed of flying.
3. I’ve always loved to draw.
4. I’ve always enjoyed comic books.
Other desires have come and gone, but these four things remain a constant in my life. And as I’ve been spending some time sorting through mountains of accumulated papers from over the years, the evidence of this being true is clear.
A funny thing is, when my pastor-who’s a lifelong learner-travels to a new city he always tries to visit a bookstore of the university in the area. When I go to a new city, I’m always looking for the comic book shop… and then the bookstore.
Seriously though, as I look back over what has always mattered to me-those things that never go away no matter how hard I may try to ignore them (and I’ve tried) the question arises… how am I making full use out of these interests? If God has given me these desires… what am I doing about them to maximize my potential? How am I using them to impact others and bring glory to God’s name?
Think on this Scripture: “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” - Proverbs 18:16
What major desires live in you? And what are you doing about them? I guaruntee that when you begin to move in the area of your gifts, you will find more fulfillment. In a time of uncertainty, it’s time to be certain about the things that you and I do have control over.
