Show Me The Money!
“SHOW ME THE MONEY!”
This is one of the key movie quotes that made Cuba Gooding Jr. memorable! AND it’s a question the whole world is basically asking, because our broken economy is affecting the economies of other countries. Where has all the money gone? How will I take care of my family? Where will I find a new job? ‘Show me the money!!!” I want to help you not only find the money, but more importantly I want to help you discover your purpose so your life can move beyond money. So, keep reading!
“HELP ME, HELP YOU.”
In the movie Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise’s character is a high-powered sports agent who’s only concerned about getting his clients lucritive contracts so he can make a lot of money. (What’s in it for me?) He is a ‘networking’ machine focused solely on surface deals until he has a moral epiphany about genuinely working to make life better for his clients… not just for the bottom line.
His new idea, gets him fired and he loses all of his clients but one, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) A long, arduous journey begins, but by the end, he discovers his true self and what it means to genuinely put others first. Everyone profits… and his epiphany slowly begins to transform the way other sports agents and clients interact.
A CHANGE IN PERSPECTIVE
In this new year of 2009, as the economy takes a serious dive, causing collateral damages in the lives of millions along the way, realize two things.
1. People are desperately looking for ways to increase their cashflow, by increasing their networking opportunities and creativity.
So be creative because it will help set you apart from those who are merely copying what someone else is doing. Seek an answer to the question, “What do I have to offer?”
2. What will ultimately set us apart from the crowd, is whether we seek to ‘network’ (what’s in it for me?) or seek to establish and build genuine relationships with others. (What’s in it for them?)
In this time, many people are working to develop their skills. A large group may have worked the same job for years and now have to re-work what they have to offer. How can you help? It’s more than just exchanging business cards… it’s about exchanging ideas, skill sets, personal lessons, fears, hopes and dreams. It’s about investing your heart into your transactions.
PRESSING FORWARD ->
I believe 2009 will be an excellent year for those who seek to genuinely know, build and develop people in a creative fashion. Our value is tied to the level we are willing to work to help empower others. (So work to develop your own gifts and talents so you can help inspire others to do the same.) Genuine relationships always outlast perilous circumstance.
“Show me the money!” Wherever you find yourself in this economy, know that God is our Source and provides the resources and direction for us to accomplish our purpose. God’s ultimate purpose has always been about drawing us into a relationship with Him and developing us for a life beyond anything we could imagine… filled with purpose, significance, love and creativity - a life for His glory! Will there be hard times? Yes. Will things fall apart? Yes. But God is able to make all of our crooked paths straight if we let Him.
“You will have trouble in this life, but take heart, I have overcome the world.” - Jesus
So press forward in making a difference in the lives of others. And as you do, you’ll find that they will make a difference in yours. Together, we can fly!
ASK YOURSELF?
How can you work to develop others this year? Who do you know who can use your help? What is one thing you can do, on a monthly basis, to help develop this person? Will you commit to making a difference?
SCRIPTURE RESOURCES
Two scriptures from the Bible to encourage you.
Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”
Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
