What Dreams live inside of you?

Fight over sea

(Posted October 29, 2007)

As I walked into my place of employment and waited for the elevator… hesitation overtook me as the dreams that live inside of me suddenly swelled up in my mind. Where did this come from? “…Lord is it possible?” Everything seemed so far fetched from where I stood - almost too fantastic to ever come to pass. And what made it worse was that I was becoming afraid to believe them.

Moments passed as I determined to press through the fear and began to envision my dream home. It seems like years since I’ve done this. I’ve been so entangled in paying rent, bills and trying to break out of the rut of “check to check” living… One after the next - the days slip by. But in this moment - in my mind, the sunlight could be seen streaming through the windows into the living room as I walked out of the bedroom towards the kitchen.

This dream led into another - being able to work full time as a Content Creator - developing compelling, epic stories for young and old to experience through print, film and new technologies. I also imagined being financially free so that I could participate more in advancing the work of God’s Kingdom on earth.

Is it possible that the dreams which live within me can come true? Or am I wasting my time?” So as the elevator doors opened and my feet took me inside… and the steel container rose to the floor where I worked, I quietly placed my dreams and fears at God’s feet.

Some dreams may have to die - and those that do are the ones of my own creation. But the ones that live… Destiny is waiting for me to pursue and receive.

Have you ever felt like me? What dreams live inside of you? What do you do to ensure their realization?

The following is from my book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers. I realize that I need to take my own advice.

What About Your Dreams?
Don’t you ever think about the future that’s filled with possibilities?
Have you ever pictured in your mind, the coming day’s light?
The day’s light shines on your dreams:
The light of recognition - the light of realization
What about your dreams?

Do you choose not to dream to avoid the off chance
That it might not come true?
Are you afraid of broken promises? Is this what you do?

What about your dreams?
Is it stupid to dream of a future when you’re trying
To make it through today?
When you’re just trying to overcome the struggles you must face.

With no dream for tomorrow can you really survive?
Something within you slowly dies…
With no joy in the morning will tonight draw you away?
What about your dreams?
