Thinking man

If you haven’t read Part One, do so and then continue reading this post.

What are you desiring in life? Every now and then it’s good to be reminded of central issues because we can get so busy with ‘life’ and ‘performance’ that we lose sight of what’s truly important.

Here’s the reminder: If we are not careful in framing our pursuits in life, motivations other than God-honoring ones will try to creep in and take hold of us. It is easy to get caught up with paying bills, living paycheck to paycheck, trying to make our dreams come true and having our comfortable, American lifestyle - that we end up chasing money… instead of chasing God.

What’s your motivation? Psalms 27:4 says, “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.”

What drives you to do the things you do? Is it to honor God? Or to build your own kingdom… your own life?

I can ask you this question, because I have asked myself after being reminded by God - that He is my SOURCE. Nothing else can provide what I need but Him. In dealing with the pressures of life, I have tried to ‘work’ situations instead of bringing everything before Him for His leading and direction. As He said to Abraham, he also says to me and to you: “Do not be afraid… I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Genesis 15:1

Our ultimate goal - as followers of Christ - is to not be conformed to the way the world does things and think things through… but to be transformed in our thinking and doing by renewing our mind with God’s Word - so we will be pleasing to Him and empowered to complete the destiny for which we were created.

May we never be too busy to chase after God - for He loves the chase and promises that if we chase after Him with all that we are - if we take the adventureous pursuit - we will find Him.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (that you need) shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

To deal with this issue a little more in depth, read the poem Are You Happy with God Alone? from my book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers.
