Private: Destiny is Waiting on Us: Forfeiting Our Birthright - Part 5
Posted by gar_dien under Risks and Opportunities , Self-Help , SpiritualityDestiny is waiting on us… Opposition awaits… We have the power to choose…
But, how do we refuse our birthright? Two teams were scheduled to compete. The first team showed up nervous because the other reigned as champions… Even so, they were ready to do battle. The fans showed up, as well as the administrators, but the team never showed. Through their arrogance they left late and missed the game. Guess who won? The team that showed up. - Are you showing up for the scheduled matches in your life?
-We forfeit our birthright when we try to be like someone else instead of developing our own gifts, talents and identity.
-We forefeit our birthright when we spend our time envying and chasing after what other people have.
-we forfeit our birthright when we compromise truth in order to do things contrary to genuine growth and development.
-We forfeit our birthright when we follow selfish pursuits that don’t benefit those around us.
-We forfeit our birthright when we refuse to believe what God has said about who we are - that we are created for a purpose and have been given gifts and talents to use for God’s glory.
-We forfeit our birthright when we live in fear, remaining “safe and comfortable” instead of venturing into the unknown.
-We forfeit our birthright when we focus on immediate gratification rather than long-term investments.
If we truly have free will to choose… then we could choose to deny or forfeit our destiny and by doing so, create an alternate path which leads to death in all of its forms. The Bible lets us know that, “The path of death is broad and easy to find. But the path to life is narrow and few find it.” This truth has both spiritual and physical connotations.
We are surrounded by individuals who demonstrate that taking the narrow road leads to great and lasting success:
-The athlete or student who doesn’t hang out like every else, but spends their time practicing their sport to the point that they become an expert.
-The person who chooses to exercise and eat healthy, avoiding many physical conditions suffered by people who eat destructive food and don’t physically exert themselves.
-The person who works in a low position at a company, but does their best in the small thing; catching the eyes of management, and is promoted to a higher level… maybe even becoming the CEO of that very company one day.
God has made provision for our entire existence; and no one can take what is reserved for us. However, we can give our birthright away. We can make unwise choices and lose time and opportunity - which in the end leads to a wasted life.
Remember three things:
1. God has a destiny and it is waiting on us just as much as we are waiting on it.
2. There will be opponents to our realizing destiny, walking towards it and living in it. By pressing through, the opposition actually brings about further mental, spiritual and physical development in our lives.
3. It is possible to forfiet our destiny by the choices we make.
So Jesus says, “If you try to save your life, you lose it. But if you lose your life for My sake and the gospel’s, you will find it!” Let go of what’s comfortable, easy and safe, then you will discover a whole existence you never thought possible… your destiny… your birthright. Don’t forfeit the game. Show up and be prepared to win.
“Destiny is waiting on us.”
