Private: Destiny is Waiting on Us: It’s Your Choice - Part 4

In Genesis 25:29-34 we find Esau, the eldest son, selling his birthright to his younger brother for food. He’s been working hard all day and is famished, exhausted and physically weak. When he comes in the house, the smell of Jacob’s cooking assaults his nose with aromatic sweetness. His taste buds begin to salivate and he heads for the kitchen in a hurry! But Jacob won’t give him any food until Esau agrees to give up the inheritance that is set aside for him as the eldest son.
Esau responds, “what good is my birthright if I’m dead?” He doesn’t think much of his future… and so he agrees to the deal. He sits at the table and eats and drinks to his heart’s content. Then he simply gets up and leaves. His hunger and thirst are satisfied for the moment… But later, he comes to regret his decision as the inheritance that was stored up for him, is given to his brother. Even though he cried and begged and pleaded… it was too late. His decision had sealed his future.
When we are overwhelmed by emotion, hunger, thirst, lust etc… we have the tendancy to make moral and ethical compromises where the results may or may not be seen right away.
What do you think about your future? How valuable is your destiny to you? Are you actively moving towards it? Remember, destiny is just as much waiting on you as you are waiting on it. There’s a destination God has in mind for you, where He has gone ahead and made provisions. But you have to make the journey there. So, are you actively moving towards your God-given purpose and dreams? Or are you wasting the days, nights and weeks pursuing other desires which don’t truly benefit?
Many of us don’t think in terms of “Birthrights” and “inheritance” unless we have a “rich uncle.” Most of us may find it hard to believe that there is a God who has a plan and a future for our lives… just waiting for us to grasp a hold of it. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Perhaps, you’re at the other end of the spectrum thinking that your birthright is destined to come to you no matter what you do. “If it’s destined to be… then it will be.” But this thinking is not biblical.
Why would God tell us in Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
Choose life… Choose life in our thoughts. Choose life with our dreams. Choose life in our words and actions. Choose life in our relationships. Choose life… We have to… choose.
What choices are we making? We make choices everyday - which either bring us closer to or take us further from our God-given destiny… the birthright that is stored up for us to receive.
You have the power to choose. What’s important to you?
