What do you see? Do you have eyes to see… but don’t see?

A couple of weeks ago my wife brought back some yogurt from the store, but I didn’t know it. I went into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator to look for something to eat. I closed it back after a moment, not seeing anything I wanted. She then told me she bought yogurt and I went back. Guess what? When I opened the refrigerator, there was the yogurt, sitting right out in plain sight! I had looked right at it before, when I scanned shelves, but somehow didn’t see it! That really disturbed me.

The Bible talks about having eyes to see, but not being able to see the truth that is right before our eyes. In many cases, this happens because we don’t want to see the truth or because we are expecting it to come in a preconceived way and it is revealed differently. Sometimes we are so comfortable in our usual way of doing things that we don’t want to come out of our comfort zones to try something new. Or maybe we don’t see the truth because we’re busy looking for something else.

I started to wonder… what truth could God be showing me that I wasn’t seeing? What answers to prayer were staring me in the face, but I was busy looking for something else? What direction does God want my life to go in and I just don’t want to go? In what areas am I so comfortable that I resist doing what will truly be beneficial to me? What great, exciting, fulfilling, satisfying aspect of life was I totally missing out on because I was so busy focusing on something small and insignificant - like being afraid of the unknown?

Right now, at the time of this post, I’m in California for some meetings. I was hesitant about coming because I’m not very familiar with California and would have to rent a car to do a considerable amount of driving. What if the car broke down? What if something bad happened? I’m all the way on the West Coast and don’t like to be away from my wife for more than a day or so - and here it was four days. I was beginning to allow the fear of the unknown overtake and paralyze me. I was so comfortable with my usual routine, I just wanted to stay back in New York. My entire outlook about this trip was beginning to take a downward path.

But then I started praying and asking God to change the way I was thinking. What if something truly amazing happened while I was out here in California? What if nothing bad happens to me? What if I have a wonderful time? Just by choosing to pray I began to feel better about the trip. Then I started making an active choice to change the way I think! So now, I’m looking to have a great time and to see amazing things and to accomplish the purpose for being out here! I expect to see new things!

Do you have eyes to see, but… don’t see? It’s time to change that. Your future stands right before you and the decisions you make today will affect what comes to pass tomorrow.

What truth do you need to see for various aspects of your life? What decisions do you need to make pertaining to your job, family, goals, etc…? Perhaps, the truth is right in front of you.

What do you see?

Let me know what you think.
