“No weapon formed against me shall prosper…”

(This is a work in Progress.  I’m still wrestling with what I’ve written.  My thoughts are not complete yet, but I figured others may wrestle with this as well so I decided to share it now and see what conversation comes out of this.)

How much do I believe the Word of God?  Not just in a surface understanding in my mind, but deep at the core of who I am where things become as natural as breathing?  I don’t question my breathing - I just breathe.  When something stands in the way of my breathing then I fight it because I know that I was created to breathe. “No weapon formed against me shall prosper…”

When I face the very real darkness in the world and enemies strike at my flesh… when my body is racked with pain and I find it hard to stand… will I believe?  Or will I complain and ask God “Where are You?” and “Why don’t you keep your Word?”  Or does He?

“No weapon formed against me shall prosper…”  What does this mean?  If I am in God’s hands than truly no weapon - whether gun or knife nor fist or chain - nor any other thing humanity or devil can create - shall prosper.  Why?  Because when I give my heart to God’s Son, He guards it and nothing can seperate me from that love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  So my soul - the true me - lies untouched no matter physical frame is buffeted. But there is another realm of reality where God does the miraculous in this human dimension - where bodily harm can be supernaturally thwarted: Fires squelched, the mouths of lions closed, bullets stopped and attackers struck blind…

The questions are “how does God want to glorify Himself in each situation?”  “Do I expect Him to intervene in my situation?”  “No weapon formed against me shall prosper…”  So many of us live in fear for our lives - in fear of death - and so we do not act in ways that bring decisive liberation to ourselves and others.  But if we truly believe that God is with us, that no weapon formed against us shall prosper and that God is powerful enough to deliver us from any and all opposition - then would we not live fearless?

God created the universe with all of its natural laws that humanity seeks to understand and exploit.  God can stop bullets and reveal His angels and make attackers turn and run on their heels.  God can give us abilities beyond those of mortal men for a specific reason that meets His purpose.  God cannot fail.  But it all boils down to our belief, because He is not short on power nor ability.

What if we truly believed God’s Word?  What possibilities would become definite?

We’ve been taught that “when it rains, it pours.”  We’ve been taught to expect the worst and to often lay down and take it when the enemy attacks.  We’ve been taught to turn and run when darkness comes and to look away when injustice strikes.  But when will we believe God and stand up?  When will we say like those Hebrew young men to King Nebuchadnezzar after he threatened to have them burned alive, “…we don’t need to defend ourselves.  The God we worship can save us from you and your flaming furnace.  But even if he doesn’t, we still won’t worship your gods and the gold statue you have set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18)  “No weapon formed against me will prosper…”  When will we begin to say, “whether God delivers only my soul or both soul and body… I will believe.”

Where is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?  Where is the God of Esther, Ruth and Deborah?  Where is the God of Noah, Moses and King David?  Where is the God of Samuel, Elijah and Elisha?  Where is the God of Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah?  Where is the God of Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah?  Where is the God of Mary, Joseph and Jesus?  Where is the God of the twelve disciples and the great multitude who saw Christ after his ressurection?  Where is the God of the raging sea and the roaring winds, who moves in both lightning and the still small whisper of a gentle breeze?  Where is the God of heaven and earth?  He’s been here all along… calling us, beckoning us, seeking to draw us not only to His Cause - but to His heart.  But perhaps we haven’t been listening.  Perhaps we’ve been too busy trying to do things our own way, trying to figure everything out with our own limited mind and on our own terms.

All throughout God’s word He promises to protect those who love and trust Him.  When will we start to truly believe what He says… what is written?  “Ask and it will be given.  Seek and you will find.  Knock and the door will be opened to you.”  (Matthew 7:7)
