Star Wars Truth: Part 2

In the climatic ending of the first Star Wars movie, we find ourselves barreling through space, engaged in a dog fight of epic proportions!  We find our hero, Luke Skywalker in an X-Wing Fighter along with others from the Resistance.  They are battling to destroy the Republic, who has become an oppressive force, ruled by the Sith.  Explosions radiate from all around us!  Laser blasts streak by, our hero and his compatriots are fighting for dear life.  Lives are being lost while close encounters are being narrowly escaped.  Isn’t life like this at times?  Battles raging all around us, we feel like we’re surrounded?

Luke is able to aid many of his fellow pilots… but not all.  Even so, he must not lose focus - for his target is a small exhaust shaft - the only vulnerable spot on the Death Star.  The battle gets even more intense as he draws closer to his destiny.  Other pilots are assigned to provide cover, but most are destroyed in the cross fire, while others are damaged and must pull back from the fight to ensure their survival.  But Luke must stay focused on his course because if he is successful… then hundreds of thousands of lives - even millions of beings spanning the numerous planets will benefit - as they are set free from the Opression of the Dark Side.

Don’t Lose Perspective

Life is like this as well… the enemy draws close to us, desirng our destruction before we can arrive at our destiny.  And if the enemy can’t destroy us, then it tries to break our concentration - distract us - get us to change course.  Why is this?  Because to fulfill our destiny will always result in the release of captives.

We see this in countless lives down through the centuries, where individuals fought to achieve their dreams and as they did, others were freed from their own prisons of fear, pride, low self-esteem and prejudice - others were freed to dream, freed to laugh, freed to cry, freed to travel and discover many of life’s awesome wonders.  Perhaps all of us can think of at least one person who lived their dream and as a result began the process of freeing us from our strange inhabitation.  Entire lives are changed by one person who would take the time to make the difference.  And while the list seems limitless, as we think of individuals since the dawning of time, there is one person who surpasses them all.

LORD of the Force

For it is this one individual who stated: “The Spirit of the LoRD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptiable year of the LORD.” Luke 4:18-19 NKJV  Christ, fulfilling His Destiny has broken the dam which restricted all of our destinies.  Author, John Eldredge states in his writings that all stories which truly impact us, draw their power from this One Great Story that we are all immersed in - the true story which God is not only telling, but has written.

Being both God and Man, Christ made the way open for each person to be in an intimate relationship with God, one that would open up to us our very purpose for being on this planet… and a relationship that will take us far beyond time and space - into an eternal existence.  This is the ultimate Sci-Fi,Action Adventure, Drama, Romance, Comedy, Mystery Story!  And it’s all true!

The Source of A Hero’s Power?

So… what happens to our hero?  “Use the Force, Luke.”  He, his X-Wing with R2-D2 barrel towards destiny; he - trusting in his technology and skills in one area, but realizing for the task which stands before him - his skills and technology is not enough… he needs more.  So he puts his trust in a Power greater than his own - the Force - it is here that the miracle happens - where he is inadequate… he is empowered to become adequate and in an instant access to every provision needed is given as all things come together and the enemy is vanquished, a destiny has begun to be fulfilled and the lives of countless captives are set free.

This story having borrowed its strength from the Greatest Story; let us also make the connection and translation in order to recieve the Life… Love… and Power… which Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God has come to give us.  Our true freedom is at stake.  So let us learn how to sharpen our abilities on one level and to rely soley on the God of the Universe on all levels!  It is through His Spirit working in us, that the impossible happens.

As Dick Staub would say, ‘May the LORD of the Force be with you.”

Let me know what you think.
