Rock. Paper. Scissors.
Rock. Paper. Scissors.
Have you ever played Rock. Paper. Scissors.? You know the game many elementary school kids will play at least once. The game usually happens between two people: Rock beats scissors, scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock.
In a way, certain elements of this game shed light on our makeup as a whole human being - our spirit, soul and body. Each has its own property, value and level of importance. The three - together - make a sigle, unique human being. The Bible tells us that God created the body of the firs human being (Adam) from the clay of the earth (and it had all of its parts). Adam did not come alive until God infused His Holy Spirit into his body - energizing the body and mind - bringing together the spirit, soul and body… and Adam became a living being.
From the beginning you and I were created to konw God, know ourselves and interact with this physical dimension as stewards and explorers of the earth and beyond. Understanding this is vital to truly understanding who we are. Jesus made the distinction to show us that we are not merely flesh and blood when he said, “It’s the Spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life.” Christ made it clear that the most valuable part of a human being is not our body, or even our mind - but our spirit.
Rock. Paper. Scissors… all aspects are important but we need to understand in what direction the power flows - The Spirit energizes and informs the mind. The Spirit energizes the body, more so than physical food. The Soul (mind, will and emotions) directs the body… affects the body. And the body, responds to the influence of our spirit and soul. In what direction of flow are you living?
Let me know what you think.
