What do you want? Have you ever been asked this question? I don’t know about you, but for some reason I tend to feel that somehow it’s wrong for me to declare what I want. Whenever I’m faced with the question - almost everytime I cringe. Let me clarify that when this question concerns “little things” like food, clothing, comic books, DVD’s and vacation… there’s no problem. However, when this question deals with the greater issues of life - like where I desire my life to be heading and what kind of impact do I want to make… major life decisions - somehow I “feel” as if I’m not entitled to what I want. All of a sudden everything becomes an uphill battle in my mind, like I’m walking through sludge which restricts my movements!

In the movie, Akeelah and the Bee, Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne) introduces a truth to Akeelah (Keke Palmer) by way of a partial quote by Marianne Williamson.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Do You Love Star Wars, but Love God More?
Dick Staub’s book is Outstanding!
Dick Staub introduces a new term into the Christian Lexicon, through his book, Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters. The term ‘Jedi Christian’, in my opinion, seeks to recapture the aspect of Christianity that has been lost among the masses of a Popular and increasingly Technological Culture - that of awe, power and mysticism. The term becomes a lens by which we can view the truths of our Christian walk, and those truths are a lens by which we can view the world of the Jedi - making correlations and distinctions between fact and fiction, fantasy and reality and ultimate issues of eternal weights and measures - the prime issue being illuminated through aspects of Jedi lore… that the life of a genuine follower of Jesus Christ should be filled with awe, power and love. Then it is even in the mundane that miracles take place on a daily basis and when we encounter those situations and circumstances beyond human control… it is through Christ that we are no longer powerless.

(The following was written in December 2006, but the message is relevant every day of our lives.)
“Happy New Year!” Another year is fast approaching, just around the corner, and you know what will happen as the countdown brings us into 2007: the phenomenon and dilema known as the New Years Resolution. Many people make them and never attain them. Others achieve part but not all. There are a few that reach their set goals and then there are those who no longer try to set goals because of too many failures.

The Following is from the book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers.
Do something with me LORD…
Make me who You want me to be.
Transform my life…
So I will count for something.
Something bigger than me…
Something I’d be willing to die for.
More than just an ideal or a passionate plea…
Something more real than me.
Because if the truth be told…
I’d reather just stay bundled up in this blanket I’ve made
Filled with comfortable things and even my fears…
Selfish things to keep me from living.

The following is from the book, Transition: Breaking Through the Barriers.
What About Your Dreams?
Don’t you ever think about the future that’s filled with possibilities?
Have you ever pictured in your mind, the coming day’s light?
The day’s light shines on your dreams:
The light of recognition - the light of realization
What about your dreams?
Do you choose not to dream to avoid the off chance
That it might not come true?
Are you afraid of broken promises? Is this what you do?

Fasting: To eat very little or abstain from certain foods, especially as a religious discipline.
“You of little faith. Why did you doubt?” Jesus said this to Peter, in a “fasting moment” while both of them defied gravity and walked on the water of a raging sea. Peter had lost foscus on Jesus and had trained his eye on the wind, waves, rain and quite possibly the “fact” that people aren’t supposed to be able to walk on water. But in the end it boiled down to doubt: To be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe. A feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality, or nature of something.

Rock. Paper. Scissors.
Have you ever played Rock. Paper. Scissors.? You know the game many elementary school kids will play at least once. The game usually happens between two people: Rock beats scissors, scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock.
In a way, certain elements of this game shed light on our makeup as a whole human being - our spirit, soul and body. Each has its own property, value and level of importance. The three - together - make a sigle, unique human being. The Bible tells us that God created the body of the firs human being (Adam) from the clay of the earth (and it had all of its parts). Adam did not come alive until God infused His Holy Spirit into his body - energizing the body and mind - bringing together the spirit, soul and body… and Adam became a living being.
