But I’m not here to talk about technology just yet. I want to talk about one of the greatest lines, in my opinion, from Star Wars, Episode I. Qui-Gon Jinn is giving insight to Anakin Skywalker and says, “Your focus determines your reality.” This statement speaks volumes, which I won’t get into here, but I do want to bring up a few points.
What Do You Focus On?
If you think about it, many of the things you have focused intently on have gotten accomplished, whereas those things you say you want, but don’t focus on just kind of dwindle away.
And what happens when you lose focus? Whether it’s in a sport like basketball or during brain surgery or while taking a test; you won’t do anywhere nearly as well as when you are focused. And you just might fail at the task, miserably.
There’s something to be said for how our focus determines our reality. Many of us, including myself, focus on the wrong things while those things that truly matter slip by often unnoticed.
What about the person who focuses on failure instead of success? Who focuses on their fears instead of overcoming? Who focus on rejection rather than being received? Who focus on hatred opposed to love? You get my point. If focus does indeed determine our reality, then those of us who tend to spend all or most of our time focusing on the negative are in pretty bad shape. So why do we get mad with what life gives us when all we do is focus on those things that distract us from our true purpose and strip away our humanity?
Many of us are living out self-fulfilling prophesies.
“Your focus determines your reality.” There is another truth which isn’t from a galaxy far, far away, but comes from another dimension, sent through the medium of the Holy Spirit of God to humanity, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)
As author Dick Staub says, “May the LORD of the Force be with you.”
